Since 1962 the Del Mar unit has been under the impressive leadership of Mike Stewart, or Skip, as he is affectionately called by those who know him well.

The success of the Del Mar is inextricably tied to the consistent guidance Skip has provided. For nearly 60 years he has passed along his vast knowledge and passion of seamanship, and tirelessly supported Del Mar members day after day, week after week, year after year.
Recently, a celebration to thank and honor Skip for his decades of commitment was attended by hundreds of people from across America, and included members of the original Del Mar crew. Graduates recounted anecdotes and gave thanks to Skip; units from decades past were reunited; recent recruits and current crew members were present; families and children joined the fray. Happy memories were shared by all and the event was heartwarming and inspiring.
The gathering was arranged by parents of past and present scouts, in particular Bob and Cynthia Shintani, and was a huge success. You can read more Skip's achievements in this Daily Pilot article,
